Biomimicry - Our Journey

What is Biomimicry one can ask?
It can be defined as "From bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate. It is a relatively new science that studies nature, its models, systems, processes and elements and then imitates or takes creative inspiration from them to solve human problems sustainably." Janine M. Benyus Biomimicry Innovation Inspired by Nature.

However what we have all learnt through this brief is to define what Biomimicry is for us in our design process. By all means this defined not only the difficulty but aswell the boundaries of the design brief we wrote for ourselves.

We have all come up with very individual definitions for such a fascinating yet complex term. You will find our views and a taster of our work in our publication at the following link........

We embarked on this journey in January and are gradually wrapping it up with this publication.
By all means this is not the end of our Journey, for most of us it will feed in the process of our next steps.

First stop: Biomimicry

Questions we have asked a few Designers and Scientists to reflect on:

* Who came first - Designer or Scientist?

* In your opinion which discipline now leads the evolution of society?

* What is Biomimicry from your perspective and how can this help us design for the future?
